An exceptional learning enviornment: ages 3-5
This in-home day care will be more than just a day care. I will create an exceptional learning environment where children can be challenged and nurtured both creatively and academically.
The ratio will be 1:4 (most day cares/preschools are 1:12 or 14)
Our small classroom setting will have centers for computers, art, academics, reading, dramatic play, practical life skills that are sure to keep your child engaged each day.
Curriculum:
- Language Arts: Phonics & learning to read.
- Mathematics: Learning our numbers & fundementals.
- Art: Self-expression & creations.
- Music: Exploring music, instrudments & sound.
- Spanish: Exploring language & cultures.
- Computers: Learning on the iMac-reading/games etc.
- Drama: Playing & exploring ourselves and our friends.
- Play: Indoor/outdoor playing & games.
Experience & Philosophies:
Because of my experience as a Monart teacher and their philosophies of teaching the child to love themselves and their work, we might be caught saying "Well, are you happy with your work?" I've learned that this helps them to seek self-acceptance, raather than to please the parents by saying "Do you like this?" and "Watch me do this!" OF course, the children will be given lots of praise, but it's usually incorporated with them acknowledging their fine work as well.
Focus:
Although I have had very little formal Montessori training, I spent several years in an accredited montessori school engaged with children ages 3-12. My readings and studies have been extensive and I try to maintain the Montessori philosophies in my teaching.
Other focuses:
Since I have a strong background in art, and feel that teaching children to be confident creators is important, that will be one major area of focus in my classroom. Children will have the opportunity to create something each day. We will also do group projects and murals where the children will work on cooperative creative learning.
Environment:
We plan to provide an environment with a value-based curriculum that honors your child as an individual and whole being. We will provide the materials to help them discover the beauty in themselves, their studies and the world. We will encourage laughter, love and expression through lessons, guided and unguided play and endless stimulated activities.
We will hope that we can help your child discover their life purpose so the can be better people and honor their family and community.
Other Staff:
To keep the ratio very low, as well as the education & standards high, a teacher with her credential and elementary education k-6th will be on staff. She will be in charge of co-teaching all the academic lessons, including reading, writing and mathematics. She will work side by side with me to create the most wonderful low-ratio learning environment for your child.
